El Centro offers various cultural events featuring sounds that enchant visitors, such as the pre-Hispanic ritual of Los Voladores de Papantla, held every afternoon on the Malecón. This ceremony, performed more than 65 feet in the air, pays tribute to the gods of rain, sun and fertility of the land.

Another sound characteristic of Jalisco’s coast is that of the marimba, a unique percussion instrument with an African influence that is deeply rooted in the state of Chiapas. Due to its cheerful tone, many restaurants and hotels in Puerto Vallarta use it to liven up the mealtime atmosphere. And of course, you cannot miss the iconic mariachi, who thrill all listeners.
